10 Healthy Breakfast Ideas For Kids

Let me start by saying, I am not a morning person. I am, however, a mom with two young kids. So I rally when it comes to getting a healthy breakfast on the table.

Luckily, I keep a breakfast menu for kids on hand with 10 simple breakfasts we rotate through. This takes the guesswork out of meal prep and helps my tired mom brain on busy mornings!

For parents who also struggle with the hustle of hectic mornings, I hope these healthy breakfast ideas for kids help!

10 Easy Breakfast Ideas For Kids To Start The Day

These 10-morning breakfast ideas are my go-to meals for my toddler and preschooler at home. Many of these breakfasts are quick and easy to make, and others require only simple prep work.

I do not particularly love preparing food, so I have made it my goal to design healthy meals that are easy to put together!

Please be mindful of any allergies your children may have, or of food choking hazards for younger children. Additionally, note that this post is for informational purposes only and individual questions and concerns should be directed to a medical doctor or nutritionist.

1. Yogurt Parfait Bowls

A healthy breakfast bowl is a cinch to whip together and fill with nutritious ingredients.

This Easy No-Cook Pumpkin Yogurt Parfait Bowl is one of my favorite preschooler and toddler breakfast items. The hardest part of this simple and healthy recipe is opening a can of pure pumpkin puree.

My kids also love peanut butter yogurt parfait bowls. I mix a dollop of peanut butter into plain whole yogurt or plain cashew yogurt and add crushed granola and fruit.

These healthy breakfast bowls are filling and give my kids energy (not that they need any more) for a full day ahead of playing and learning!

2. Veggie Omelet with Toast

My kids love simple omelets with chopped spinach.

I throw raw spinach in with my egg mixture and throw it all on the pan for a few minutes on each side. As long as my pan is nice and hot (and buttered), I get a clean omelet that doesn’t leave any sticky residue on the pan.

I add a side of toast with strawberry jam to add some sweetness to the savory.

3. Banana Zucchini Pancakes

My toddler and preschooler devour these Kid-Friendly Zucchini Banana Oatmeal Pancakes.

I feel great about giving them these healthy pancakes because they have only four ingredients; eggs, banana, zucchini, and oats.

For kids who are less than enthusiastic about breakfast, adding some chocolate chips to the pancake batter usually helps!

4. Cream of Wheat Hot Cereal with Scrambled Eggs

Cream of wheat with some scrambled eggs on the side is a simple wholesome breakfast.

I use Bob’s Red Mill Organic Creamy Wheat Hot Cereal. It has a nice smooth consistency and tastes great with a little maple syrup or brown sugar and cream. My preschooler also loves it with a small handful of raisins and fresh fruit.

Add a side of scrambled eggs for a protein boost.

5. Homemade Waffles Topped With Fresh Fruit

I do not know any kid who does not like waffles, and my children are no exception.

We keep a jar of homemade waffle mix on hand (just the dry ingredients all mixed together), and then add the wet ingredients morning of. I use this dairy free waffle recipe from Neta Cooks with whole wheat flour and our old waffle iron.

Top a warm waffle with fresh fruit and a squirt of whipped cream and that’s a pretty tasty breakfast.

While perhaps not as healthy as some of the other breakfast items on this list, all things in moderation!

To add some additional nutrients to a waffle breakfast morning, I give my kids a side of this 3-ingredient Banana Chia Seed Pudding. My toddler and preschooler LOVE this stuff. To make a batch, I simply mix up a banana, chia seeds, and soy milk and let it all sit in the fridge overnight.

Also, while I have not tried this out yet myself, I have been looking up waffle recipes like this one that use yogurt and whole wheat flour to enhance a waffle’s nutrient profile.

6. Healthy Homemade Muffins with Scrambled Eggs

Having these Carrot Muffins With No Added Sugar or these Banana Spinach Muffins on hand is great for busy or lazy mornings.

Muffin recipes loaded with spinach and carrots are a great way for toddlers and preschoolers to get some veggies in! My kids devour these muffins!

Premade homemade muffins are a great quick and easy breakfast for preschoolers!

As long as I already have these muffins on hand from baking a batch the day before, they make breakfast time a breeze. I add a side of scrambled eggs and fruit for additional nutrients.

7. Deviled Eggs With Toast And Fresh Fruit

While I have never been able to get my kids to eat plain hard-boiled eggs, they will chow down on deviled eggs!

When I make deviled eggs for my kids for an afternoon snack, I’ll make a few extra to throw in the fridge for breakfast the next morning.

I use Lisa Bryan’s simple deviled egg recipe and they turn out delicious every time.

A side of toast with strawberry jam and some fresh fruit completes the meal!

8. Egg Bagel

Scramble up an egg, smear some mayo on a toasted bagel, and you have a tasty, simple, egg bagel breakfast sandwich.

I add a side of fresh fruit or serve this Easy and Tasty Spinach with Fruit Smoothie with it and my kids are happy and full!

9. Homemade Granola Bars With Creamy Yogurt or Warm Nut Butter

Homemade granola bars are another great item to have on hand for an easy and healthy kid breakfast.

These simple Homemade Granola Bars are quick to make and my kids love them. They are especially delicious dipped in Zoi Plain Greek Yogurt. This yogurt almost tastes like fresh whipped cream to me and has a thick creamy texture!

Or, I warm up some peanut butter or almond butter and put it in a dish alongside the granola bars for dipping.

10. Classic Oatmeal Bowl With Fixings

A wholesome bowl of oatmeal topped with chopped nuts, seeds, and fresh fruit or raisins is a great way to start the day.

Add in some brown sugar and this becomes a favorite simple breakfast for kids before school.

Creating a Breakfast Menu For Kids

While my kids love all of the above breakfast ideas, I know that this does not mean all kids will love the same foods.

As such, parents have to experiment a little and see what works.

I also keep in mind that just because my toddler and preschooler will not eat something one day, does not mean they won’t eat it another day. In fact, they may devour it the next time I offer it to them.

So I always offer a new food a few times before giving up on it. Even after giving up on it for a short time, I will usually reintroduce it a few weeks later to see if they have changed their minds.

May this breakfast menu for kids bring full bellies, fewer tantrums, and greater simplicity to parents everywhere!
